 KCRTA - What we do.

KCRTA members have been helping in state conventions when held in San Antonio

and many members have had District 20 Chair Committees.

KCRTA's annual children book drive collects thousands of books and distributes

them to the school libraries in Kendall County and sometimes sharing with other units

when they were not able to collect. KCRTA has received awards for donating the most

books in District 20.

KCRTA is a strong unit with good leadership, active members and great interest in

the activities of TRTA.

Kendall County Retired Teachers Association History

Kendall County Retired Teachers Association (KCRTA) was founded on

December 14, 1978. It was originally organized as Boerne Retired Teachers

by its eight charter members. June 2, 1998, its name was changed to

Kendall County RTA to include retirees from Comfort ISD. Since Kendall

County is known as the Key to the Hill Country of Texas, this unit also has

members who have retired from school districts in surrounding counties.

The first officers were President Louise Helms, Vice President Iva Lee

Kohler, Secretary Christine East and Treasurer H. T. Patterson. KCRTA is

fortunate to have Virginia Milner, one of our members that was President

during the first twenty years of the unit, that is still active today.

Another current member is Robert Rahm who was one of the first persons

to receive the Boerne ISD Distinguished Alumni Award in 2021. Robert was

schooled in Boerne, was a teacher in Boerne and retired from Boerne as its

Superintendent. Suann Agold who was KCRTA President from 2013 to

2017 and District 20 President from 2018 to 2020 continues to be very

active in promoting the functions of District 20 and the local Kendall County

Chapter.

KCRTA members attended the dedication of a new Boerne ISD elementary

school in 2024, the first school to be named after a female teacher. Viola

“Olie” Wilson was a beloved teacher in the Boerne schools from the 1930s

into the 1970s. Local unit members continue to be active at the district level

as officers and committee chairs. In the local unit members spend many

hours each year volunteering their service to the school districts and other

service organizations in the area.
